Professor Qidi Wu

Former President of Tongji University, Vice Minister of the Ministry of Education of China.

In 2000, Shinehigh Investment Group, driven by the aspiration to contribute more to China's education, collaborated with Tongji University under the strong support of President Wu Qidi to jointly establish the Tongji University Experimental School in Yangpu District. This marked a significant reform attempt in the development of private basic education in Shanghai, with President Wu's continuous concern and support for the school's development.

In 2003, even after President Qidi Wu was appointed as Vice Minister of the Ministry of Education, she never forgot the development of Tongji University Experimental School and continued to provide considerate care. The remarkable achievements of the school to date owe much to Vice Minister Wu's earnest guidance and diligent efforts.

Her dedication to China's educational reform, exploration of international education, and her 50-year commitment to serving the nation continue to inspire and motivate EFA China to strive in the field of education, aiming to provide more and better educational opportunities for Chinese youth.

Qidi Wu

Madame Qidi Wu is a noted scholar and former president of Tongji University. She is a former vice-minister of education.

In 1995, Wu became the first university president in China to be chosen to the position by a democratic election. During her eight-year presidency, the University took an active part in higher education reform. She guided the University through several merges with other universities and colleges smoothly. During her presidency, Tongji University made outstanding achievements and succeeded in evolving from a leading engineering school to a comprehensive, research-intensive and international institution, ranking among the top Chinese universities. Prior to her election to the presidency, Wu had a successful career as a professor of automatic control, Deputy Dean of the Department of Electrical Engineering, Assistant President, and Vice President.

A native of Zhejiang province, Wu earned a bachelor’s degree in radio engineering from the Department of Radio and Electronic Engineering of Tsinghua University, China; a master’s degree in automatic control from the Department of Precision Instrument, Tsinghua University, China; and a Ph.D. in automation from the Department of Electrical Engineering of the Federal Institute of Technology, Zurich, Switzerland. She also has an honorary doctor of humane letters degree from Arizona State University in the United States, which she received in recognition of her significant achievements as a higher education leader and exceptional academic research work.

After a successful 17-year career at Tongji University as a professor and president, Madame Wu was elected member to the academic degrees committee of the State Council, and she also served as deputy director of the Shanghai Municipal Academic Degree Committee. Wu Qidi was elected vice-minister of education in 2003.

She is the president of the Shanghai Overseas Returned Scholars Association. Vice President of the Western Returned Scholars Association.
